What Is The History Of WSSP ?
Water & Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) was established in 2014 as a public sector company, registered under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance 1984 (now Companies Act 2017). It was created by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) in collaboration with Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), and City District Government Peshawar, to reform and modernize the delivery of municipal services in the provincial capital.
🛠️ Why WSSP Was Formed
Before WSSP, municipal services like water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management were fragmented across different departments, resulting in:
-
Inefficiency and overlapping roles
-
Inconsistent service quality
-
Lack of accountability
-
Poor citizen satisfaction
To address these issues, the provincial government merged these functions under one autonomous, professionally-managed entity — WSSP.
